CIPRED Youth Participation at the World Indigneous Youth Conference

CIPRED Youth – Sharana Sherpa participated as a panelist at the World Indigenous Youth Conference on the theme “Mainstreaming the Indigenous Peoples’ Movement and the Role of Indigenous Youth". During the session, she highlighted the importance of Indigenous-led research and documentation in generating evidence grounded in Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, and lived experiences to inform policy dialogue. She shared the panel with distinguished panellists: Mr Nima Hyolmo Lama, Chairperson of NEFIN; Ms Saru Limbu, Mukkumlung Committee; and Mr Mohan Gole, Tamsaling Sangharsha Samiti.

She emphasised the crucial need for intergenerational leadership in Indigenous-led research in continuing the momentum led by the elders and further advancing the movement through creative and innovative approaches of Indigenous storytelling. She also underscored CIPRED’s efforts in fostering youth leadership in Indigenous-led research, education, and development, while supporting the sustainability of Indigenous youth by strengthening Indigenous food and economy on our own landscapes.

The two-day conference, organized by the Youth Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (YFIN) and the National Youth Council, brought together Indigenous Peoples, local community representatives, researchers, activists, and youth leaders, creating a shared platform for meaningful dialogue, collective learning, and international solidarity.
