The publication "Living Traditions Under Pressure: Indigenous Peoples’ Livelihoods, Knowledge Systems, and Resistance in South Asia" features the article of the young and aspiring students of the Masters in Indigenous Education and Development (MIED) of Kathmandu University School of Education. Guided by the learnings from the course on Indigenous methodologies and worldviews, the volume presents grounded research work on Indigenous Peoples' traditional livelihoods in South Asia, including transhumance pastoralism, weaving, shifting cultivation, Indigenous architecture, Indigenous economic systems, contributing to climate resilience, ecosystems, biodiversity conservation and sustainability. The research also highlights how Indigenous communities are sustaining the culture, livelihoods, economies and relationship with land amidst increasing pressures of climate change, conservation, development and modernisation.
This is an exemplary outcome on Indigenous-led research and education which will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, Indigenous leaders, students, and practitioners, in evidence-based policy dialogue and for advancing a rights-based approach to conservation and development, upholding Indigenous Peoples' rights, knowledge systems, customary institutions, traditional livelihoods, cultural values and practices.
