Common Position Paper for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in National Park Acts and Regulations

 

The development of the joint common position paper over the legal provisions of the national parks developed during the National level Workshop on Rights Based Conservation in Nepal from 23-24 December in the presence of 23 organizations including NEFIN, FECOFUN, NIWF, NIDA, YFIN, INWOLAG, NEFEJ, NCA, NHRC, HEMAWANTI, GFN, RDN, AFFON, ACOFUN, SAN, RRN, SWC, PRC, RRI, NAMHUS, Mountain Spirit, FIMI, Ashmita Nepal, FAO UN, and others and handed over to the Ministry of Forest and Environment, and concerned department, Department of National Parks and Wildlfie Conservation (DNPWC) marks a historical achievement of Indigenous Peoples, Local communities, Women, Madheshi, Dalits, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized communities in Nepal.

 

The common position paper was a result of the collective efforts of 113 participants including representatives from government agencies, Indigenous Peoples' Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Indigenous experts, academicians, community representatives from Shuklaphanta National Park, Bardiya National Park, Chitwan National Park, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
